I try to avoid using my 11-18 lense wide open as it lacks some sharpness in the corners but there are times when tripods aren't allowed and you've just got to get the shot. As there's still no sign of a Nikon D400 maybe I should treat myself to a new lense instead.

"Mosta boasts the third largest unsupported dome in the World dedicated to the Assumption. The Feast of the Assumption is held on August 15 and it is a public holiday. The church is also known as the Rotunda of St Marija Assunta. On 9 April 1942, the church was nearly destroyed during World War 2. An Axis bomb pierced the dome of the church but failed to explode. The detonator was removed and a replica bomb is now displayed as a memorial.

The Rotunda was designed by George Grognet de Vasse, a French citizen but resident in Mosta. Mosta residents, at that time totalling not more than 1500, built this spectacular church by their own hands. It took them 27 years to complete but the result is a tourist attraction of world standard. Grognet chose the type of stone by insisting on having one slab from each quarry operating in the Islands. He then proceeded to test their durability. In the end he chose a quarry in Mosta near to Ta' Vnezja, at the gate of an old military airfield. The stone of the Rotunda bathes in the sun and spectacularly has taken a yellow/orange/red colour." Source : Wikipedia

Taken a while back on a whistle stop Architectural Field Trip of Northern Europe. I know the Architect is Herman Hertzberger, I'm pretty sure it's Holland but I've no idea what the building is.

Thanks to Cybertect for sugesting it may the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment building in the Hague. I'm not 100% on this but it does ring a bell in the back of my head somewhere.

Taken inside Bath Abbey en-route to Devon, this is one of my favourite shots from our recent trip.

I do love my 11-17mm Tamron lense. Having such a wide angle of view means you can handhold it down to some very low shutter speeds, useful in most architectural interior shots. Bath Abbey, in contrast to most English Cathedrals, was quite brightly illuminated by the tall Perpendicular Gothic windows.

Interior of Koski Mehmed-Pasa Mosque, Mostar.

From Wikipedia : "Mostar is a city and the administrative center of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is also university, cultural, economic and political center of Croats of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Population is 105,797

Mostar is situated on the Neretva River and is the fifth-largest city in the country. Mostar was named after the bridge keepers (mostari) who in the medieval times guarded the Stari Most (Old Bridge) over the Neretva. The Old Bridge, built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's most visited landmarks, and is considered an exemplary piece of Islamic architecture in the Balkans."
