is the Lake District's highest pass that is open to motor traffic and it connects Ambleside in the Rothay Valley to Patterdale in the Ullswater Valley - the A592 road. In places, the gradient is 1 in 4 - or bloody steep if you walk it! Good pub at the top and bottom though!

The "Grot" at Rydal Hall

The "Grot" is a summerhouse overlooking the waterfall and became a major landmark for artists in the 18th & 19th century.

The Grot is also described in Wordsworth’s poem, ‘An Evening Walk’
