During the restoration work in the 1960s, the baroque wooden altar was removed and, to our great surprise, a pre-existing structure plastered in white came to light. Legend has it that under the altar there were secret tunnels that led to the fortified tower of Cocquio Trevisago. These tunnels were actually the ossuaries used to bury the plague dead of 1631.

Un altare misterioso
Durante i lavori di restauro degli anni '60, l'altare ligneo barocco è stato rimosso e, con nostra grande sorpresa, è venuta alla luce una struttura preesistente intonacata di bianco. La leggenda narra che sotto l'altare vi fossero dei cunicoli segreti che conducevano alla torre fortificata di Cocquio Trevisago. Questi tunnel erano in realtà gli ossari utilizzati per seppellire i morti di peste del 1631.
