This is a composite sculpture. There are three separate ancient Roman fragments: the head and bust in Nero Antico marble and the lower half of the torso, in alabaster. These were assembled by the Baroque sculptor Nicolas Cordier with his own work (the upper drapery, also in alabaster, the arms and legs also in Nero Antico, baldric in Rosso Antico, belt in Giallo Antico, with inlay of other materials) sometime between 1607 and 1612. By 1613 it was in the collection of Scipione Borghese at Rome. It was purchased by Napoleon from Camillo Borghese in 1808.

In the collection of the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. MR 303)
Photographed on display in the exhibit "Recycling Beauty" (Nov 17, 2022 - Feb 27, 2023) at the Fondazione Prada, Milan, Italy
