Alternative title: After dinner cigarette.

A couple of things:
*note the beautiful wooden table surface. I just love it.
*guess what the peanut is for (every guest got a single one)!

(It's not usually this empty here - this was in the evening when the shops were closed.)

Inside Tokyo Midtown Tower (the second tallest building in Tokyo - the tallest being Tokyo Skytree). It was completed in 2007, developed by Mitsui Fudosan Company (that still own the complex) and designed by the American architect firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (also known as SOM). It is officially located in the Akasaka area, but you get there from the Roppongi subway station).

And Zaō Gongen himself - made of exquisitely crafted gilt bronze (zoom in to see the details). This not very large piece dates to the Heian period and the 10-12 century.

Gongen is a phenomenon in shugendō, a religious tradition dating back to the Nara period (8th century AD) which combines Shinto and Buddhism. And the gongen are considered to be Buddha turned into a kami (i.e. a Shinto god).

On display at Tokyo National Museum.

The impressive ramparts of the Edo castle compound (most of that castle is now lost, but some remains can still be seen, some buildings and these striking walls).

At the Meiji shrine. The guy with the camera was one of the wedding photographers, and I'm guessing he is adding some shots for the proper mood to the portfolio (or film in this case).

The shrine was founded in 1920, dedicated to the deified spirits of emperor Meiji (1852-1912) and his wife empress Shoken (1849-1914).
