The northern cemetery in Lund. It is now in an area surrounded by houses, close to hospital, but when the cemetery was founded in 1816 it was outside the town. It was partially planned by the architect Fredrik Blom. But it was not until it had been forbidden in 1841 to be buried within the town limits that it became popular to be buried here.

Jungfrun Anna Åkesson - died 1886. "Jungfru" is the Swedish word for "maid" and can mean both unmarried woman and a woman working with house-chores in private households. It is impossible to tell which kind of maid this refers to.

It is small stone with an angel in a relief - mass-produced in the 19th century. This relief was designed by the Danish artist Bertel Thorvaldsen, and is one of a pair. This one is called Night (and the other, suitably enough, Day), and the design is from 1815 - and the flying thing behind the angle with the children is an owl.

The long table at Bäckaskog castle.

The castle actually began as a 11th century convent, but after the Reformation the castle was taken over by the Danish crown in 1537. It was given as a home to the noble families of Ulfstand, Brahe and Ramel and the place was turned into a suitable castle. After Skåne became a Swedish province the castle got Swedish owners and in the 19th century royalty moved in. King Oscar I started renting the place in 1818, he was followed by his son Karl XV from 1845 up until his death 1872, when he in his turn was followed by his daughter Louise - and she was queen of Denmark. After 1900 it was returned to Swedish, non-royal, hands in the shape of Filip Stjernswärd. Much of the interior you can see today comes from the royal renovations of the 19th century.

Re-post - originally posted on Flickr in February 2009.

Stadsparken (the city park) of Lund, Sweden. The park was inaugurated in 1911 - the area, just outside the medieval town wall, had been used in 1907 for the Lund exhibition (Lundautställningen) after the town had bought the piece of land in 1904. At the exhibition some 250 000 people visited the area in four months, viewing exhibitors from the whole country.
