A saint Ursula reliquary, depicting the saint on a golden boat, dating to 1505. In the treasure chamber of Musée de l'Œuvre.

At Palais du Tau - the former palace of the archibishop of Reims. It was here the French king stayed before his coronation in the cathedral close by and after the coronation the banquet was held here - the first recorded one in 990 and the last in 1825. The palace gets its name from the Greek letter Tau which shape it resembled, a name first attested in the 12th century.

The first attested building in the place was a late Gallo-Roman villa, later to be replaced by a Carolingian palace. This in turn was rebuilt and now the oldest part of the palace is the chapel (dating to 1207) and the rest of the palace dates to around 1500 (with a later, Baroque face-lift 1671-1710). The palace was damaged by fire in 1914. It now houses the Musée de l'Œuvre which shows a great collection of pieces of art connected with the cathedral - from statues and tapestries to reliquaries and items used at the coronations.

I'm home again from Tokyo.

A chōme, 丁目, is a numbered part of districts in Japanese cities and towns. And this is Ginza Six, a luxury brand building which opened in 2017. Which is called so after its address, which is actually 6-chōme. 5-chōme is where I am standing.

The windows are Gothic, but the church itself is actually from the 9th century, making it Carolingian.

...take the same shot as everybody else. Again. This time the dome of the Pantheon.

The original Pantheon was built by Marcus Agrippa in 27 B.C. - the inscription still says M.AGRIPPA.L.F.COS.TERTIUM.FECIT which means 'Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, who has been consul three times, built this' on the outside of the building. Modern archaeological research has shown that the Pantheon now standing here is not the one Agrippa built - instead it was erected sometime after 110 A.D. after the original had been destroyed by fire in 80 A.D. (it was first rebuilt by Domitian after the fire, but that one also burned down). Earlier historians thought this done by Hadrian, but new research could indicate it was actually done already by Trajan, and his architect Apollodorus of Damascus, and then finished by Hadrian. The actual function of the building in ancient times is not known.

In 609 the Pantheon was consecrated to be a church by Pope Boniface IV, and it still is a church, called Sancta Maria ad Martyres (now Santa Maria dei Martiri, and informally known as Santa Maria Rotonda). Since the Renaissance it has been used as a burial place, for example for Raphael, and here two of Italy's kings are buried: Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I.
