This castle was originally built in 1346-1428 in a Gothic style, just to be rebuilt again in the 16th century in a mannerist style. It has been home to both the Swedish governor and the Polish queen. It was destroyed to 60% in August 1944. It was later rebuilt, with some modifications, following an engraving by Matthäus Merian from 1653.
