The baroque castle of Balleroy was built between 1631 and 1637 by François Mansart for Jean de Choisy - and was a model for Verseille. In 1697 the castle passed on to the family of de la Cour, and it stayed in that family until 1970 when the castle was bought by the American rich man Malcolm Forbes (1919-1990), and today it is owned by his heirs. It is open to the public in guided tours in the summer.

Stralsund, like many other parts of eastern Germany, is in great need of renovations. Now the town is bustling with construction work - much needed, as is evident by this photo. The finished houses looked very much like the one to the right before they got help.
