This is actually a rather emotional shot for me - see that tiny, tiny figure waving? That was my husband when I had left him to take the train to Heathrow to return to Sweden. Thankfully he could make the same trip yesterday so now the family is complete again for Christmas.

London Paddington station opened for traffic as early as 1838 - and the current station dates to 1854, when it was constructed by one of the most famous British engineers of the Victorian era: Isambard Kingdom Brunel - he took inspiration from the Crystal Palace n Hyde Park, built for London exhibition of 1851. The station has, of course, seen much rebuilding since then, especially with the increase of traffic - but the roof was also completely reconstructed in the 1920s, replacing the original iron structure with steel but striving to retain the original look.
