I escaped (some) of the summer heat with a trip to Norway.

This is Barhussetra, a Norwegian house used for shieling. The building dates to ca 1800 and is now preserved at the open-air museum Maihaugen in Lillehammer. Buildings of this kind were used in the summers in the Norwegian mountains when people took their animals up there for new pastures - they generally belonged to a proper farm down in the valleys.

The museum Maihaugen opened in 1904 and with its almost 200 buildings it is one of the largest of its kind in northern Europe (thanks Wikipedia!).
