One of the most fascinating aspects of Malta is its ancient history (and I mean really ancient). They left behind magnificent temples, but also figurines and other small pieces of what we could call art (we really don't know how the people that made them viewed them, and there is really no use speculating). This little head, and its fellow 'head' dates to the Maltese Temple period, 3600-2500 B.C. Of course we do not know if this is the likeness of a real person or the portrait of some deity, but a face of someone, that it is.

Head(s?) on display at The National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta, Malta (it's not a very big museum, but well worth a visit).
