One of three photos (all in cabinet card size), in a set of three, of Ellen and her husband Henrik Gahn, Ellen alone, and her mother Augusta Björkman. The photo is taken in Stockholm and and most likely very soon after their marriage in September 1888.
Alice Ellen Silfverstolpe (sometimes spelt Silverstolpe) was born in Stockholm on the 2nd of July 1866. She was the 6th child of Augusta Vilhelmina Björkman and David August Leonard Silfverstolpe (major general), and the second daughter - but her older sister Aline died just 2 years old, less than 3 weeks before the birth of Ellen.
Ellen married Henrik Jakob Fredrik Gahn on September 29 1888 in Stockholm. He was a captain at the regiment of Västmanland and disponent (a title hard to translate, but similar to a top boss in a shareholding company) at Kåfalla bruk. He was born at Kåfalla bruk on June 6 1855 as the son of Henrik Pontus Wolter Gahn and Lovisa Fredrika Cederborgh, and died at Kåfalla April 19 1910. Ellen and Henrik had three children:
Hans Henrik August Colquhoun (born 1890)
Märta Fredrique (born 1891)
Carl Wolter Henrik Colquhoun (born 1894)
