The monument over Christina, reigning queen of Sweden, in St Peter's basilica. The queen (who lived 1626-1689) had caused quite a sensation (if not scandal) when she had abdicated from the Swedish throne in 1654 and above all turned to Catholicism.
This is not the queen's actual burial - she lays in Vatican grotto (one of only three women to do so). This memorial was made 1702, commissioned by pope Clement XI and executed by Carlo Fontana (and even when it was new it was known for being quite ugly (!)).
