The first time I had seen the Hooded Mergansers was in Reno, so I decided to look them up and found it was just about 1 year to the day.

They are just sitting in their folder so I decided to share my 'old' Hoodies...:)

I met friends Jim and Meegan over at Arrowhead Marsh in Oakland to view the Clapper Rails at high tide and had a great time.

I brought along my app for 'bird calls' and played the call for the rail, now I had no idea that this was frowned upon or in-appropriate, as later speaking to someone that comes there regularly explained to me that it stresses the birds. I also realized afterwards that it probably wasn't necessary that the birds were going to come out anyway!

I just thought I would mention it to see if anyone has any thought about this?

I'm not sure why these are called 'evening grosbeaks, I think I would call them 'morning grosbeaks' with their yellow feathers! Nobody asked me...:)

I feel since I mentioned seeing them (a lifer for me) that I should show them to Lisa...lol I wish I had better shots, but it appears my wearing white this day made them a little more skittish than normal! Is this true?
