I had a week in the South Hams of Devon from 25 May, staying at Dartmouth, so last Sunday I decided to pay a visit to Labrador Bay RSPB reserve to see the beautiful Cirl Buntings again.

In the UK. Cirls are largely found in SW England, at the limit of their European range, mainly in South Devon, though they have spread more widely around the area in recent years.

The weather was a bit changeable on the day, sunny and cloudy alternating, with occasional showers. The male birds were not especially keen to perch up in the hedgerows and show well, so in the main photography was confined to birds ground feeding, where they came down in very small numbers, but were a bit skittish. I found myself a nice sheltered gap in a hedgerow in one of the favoured fields and late on this solitary male came down to feed, directly in front of me. I was in a bit of a dip, so was largely concealed as he went about his foraging, blissfully unaware of my presence, feet away.

Thank you for your faves and comments.
