This courthouse was erected in 1955 in between the 1911 and 1940 Clarke County Courthouse Annexes that sandwiched the county's 1899 courthouse. It was designed by architect Charles H. McCauley.

Grove Hill, formerly known as Macon, is located in the middle of Clarke County. the larger town of Jackson, Alabama is also located in Clarke County.
