When a human is asked about a particular fire,
she comes close:
then it is too hot,
so she turns her face—

and that’s when the forest of her bearable life appears,
always on the other side of the fire. The fire
she’s been asked to tell the story of,
she has to turn from it, so the story you hear
is that of pines and twitching leaves
and how her body is like neither—

all the while there is a fire
at her back
which she feels in fine detail,
as if the flame were a dremel
and her back its etching glass.

You will not know all about the fire
simply because you asked.
When she speaks of the forest
this is what she is teaching you,

you who thought you were her master.

During my 10 day trip to Iceland over the last half of July, I had to return to one of my favorite sites for a unique human element image. So I drove up to Vik then over to this seaside section a little further north where I camped out a couple of nights to ensure I'd capture a few nice sunset and a sunrise image and this human element image.

So here's one of the sunsets I captured here.

In 2020 I'll be returning to Iceland again over the end of June but this time I'll be there for at least 3 weeks.

In 2020 I will be conducting 3 workshops in the US and one in Northern Scotland. For the one in Scotland, I will be collaborating with one of Scotland's finest landscape photographers and yes we'll be taking our attendees to the Isle of Skye which is a must shoot site.

During all US workshops, I will take my group out at night for Milky Way night sky photography.

Here is a list of my 2020 photography workshops

1. Arches National Park - Feb. 28 - March 2

2. Arches National Park - September 20-23

3. Northern Scotland: October 19-23

All workshops include Photoshop & Lightroom Milky Way post processing sessions covering latest Milky Way processing technique with image stacking.

Info on the Scotland workshop will be available after I return from northern Scotland on October 23, 2019.

More detailed info on the mid-June 2020 workshop in Jackson Hole, Wyoming may be found here:

Öxarárfoss is in Iceland’s Þingvellir National Park and is one of the more accessible waterfalls. The lighting was a bit harsh on this occasion but after some work on the highlights and shadows in Lightroom and cropping out or cloning the extremes I was able to bring out plenty of detail.

An overnight rain/snow storm left the dunes soaked with water, which made patterns become more visible, and left snow on the tops of the surrounding mountains. As clouds were breaking and the sun could finally show through, the time came for this portrait.
