So... After coffee, cook and I started walking down the path towards Avalon hide, we spotted an elderly couple poking around in the grass beside the track with a stick. I stopped to ask what they'd spotted, harvest mice they replied. Sure enough, spread along the undergrowth, five tiny baby Harvest mice were trying to hang on to leaves and stems...

These guys were really small, no more than 8 - 10 days old and too young to be out and about. They were all very weak and hungry, and in dire need of help... With no adults or nest in sight and with a magpie in the bushes above, that clearly had his eye on them too, something had to be done and quick. Cook went off to find a warden, and I offered them some squished blackberries which they eagerly took and ate.

Cook returned with the warden and a box, he made a phone call to 'Secret World', and we took the little fellas there in the car...
Fingers crossed they'll make it through the night.
