To the left: a new and modern office building. To the right, a so-called "communist factory" - a metal and glass hall-type industrial building.
They look almost exactly the same.

The old building used to be a nice villa and a Security safe-house (casa conspirativa). It is right across the street from the Central Commitee of the Communist Party.
I guess they wanted to keep an eye on each other. But being a Security safe-house, it was involved in the fighting that took place here in december 1989 and was heavily damaged.
Instead of restoring it, you can see what happened to this poor villa - a rape.

This also calls forth another image, from "Alien": the young monster popping out of the torn apart body of the old building.
It's just unbelievable that they allowed something like this to be built.

This is a monument dedicated to the Romanian Revolution, but it is such an idiotic kitsch that it has become the laughing stock of everybody in Bucharest.
Actually, this whole place, called "Revolution Square", former "Palace Square", is now currently called "La cartof", meaning "to the potato". Obviously, because this monument looks like a potato on a stake.
