The Strohauser Sieltief is an about 10 km long watercourse with the purpose to dewater the boggy landscape. Typical north German weather...

In Frisia a Tief refers to a free running watercourse whose sole is below sea level. A Siel is a tidal gate that usually opens and closes "automatically" simply controlled just by the water pressure on the sea side, so at high water the gate closes.
