Finally found one that did not instantly disappear at the top of Anvil Mountain. In a wide-open landscape crawling with predators of small rodents - bears, owls, hawks, foxes - these abundant creatures don't tend to stay put.

A pair of long-tailed ducks hang out at a roadside pond just down the street from our hotel. In low light, the D500/200-500 mm combo falls apart somewhat, but it sure is easy to work with when you're lying down in the boggy tundra.
