Kama‘aina, “people of the land” or native Hawaiians.

While at the beach on a sunset shoot I happened upon a small wedding ceremony taking place. I watched from a distance not wanting to intrude, and afterwards the bride saw me and walked over. I asked if she wanted me to take her photo, since I saw no photographer there, and she nodded enthusiastically. I quickly set her up and took a series of close ups. After editing, I sent them to her. It was the first time I recall taking a non candid portrait and putting it on Flickr. I've often said I don't like the unnatural look that I get from posed portraits, but she was immediately comfortable when I raised my camera and began photographing her. I was very pleased at her serene and gentle demeanor which I think was captured in this portrait.
