A fairly common plant in suitable habitat. The bluish-violet flowers may be found in rough grassy areas, hedgerows, embankments and woodland edges.
The plant belongs to the pea family. It is also known as the cow vetch, probably because of its use as a forage crop. Being a legume, it fixes nitrogen in the soil and the flowers are much loved by bees and butterflies as a source of nectar.
