My husband and I were exploring the Somenos Marsh area in Cowichan when we saw this red-tailed hawk greeting us- Welcome to Cowichan. The Somenos Marsh looks like a very promising area for bird photography. Hope you all have a great Easter long weekend. View large for greater details.

These beautiful birds are not really rare around Victoria but they are extremely secretive. I was surprised to see them in our yard over the last couple of days. We live on the edge of a park and we have bird feeders in our yards. The thrushes were happy to find that little oasis and were negotiating their share of the cake with the juncos, the flickers, the downy woodpeckers, the kinglets and the wrens, the sparrows, the finches... Birds heavily rely on backyard feeders when the weather is rough. Today the weather is back to normal so most birds are gone to greener pasture. Flash was used for this picture. The level of light was extremely low and the yard is shaded by huge conifer trees. HFF and have a great weekend everyone.
