Reenactment in Fulda, Schloss Fasanerie, Germany

On June 23, 1780, Wilhelm von Knyphausen was leading a Corp composed of British and Hessian soldiers and Jäger (German rangers) against Major General Nathanael Greene in Springfield Township, Union County, New Jersey. - "Give 'em Watts, boys!" ~James Caldwell

German troops were rented or bought by the British to fight against the Continental Army. All too often people are not aware that American Indians also fought in the American Revolutionary War. Of the six nations of the Iroquois league, two supported the colonists while the other four--among them the Mohawks--allied with the British.

African American slaves fought against the King's men in hopes to gain their freedom.

Not all Germans supported the British Crown: Baron von Steuben, a Prussian officer, served as Major General in the Continental Army and brought some order into the mess. ;-)
