Also called Vierströmebrunnen (Four-Streams-Fountain) and Greifenbrunnen (Gryphon Fountain), was constructed in 1708 by the sculptor Jakob van der Auwera. The order gave Prince-bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau. There is a sign that says that the figures are symbolical for the four Franconian rivers Main, Tauber, Sinn and Saale, but there is no substantial proof of it. The records only show that they embody four streams. Since there has been a similar fountain created by Gianlorenzo Bernini on the Piazza Navona in Rome, the allegory of the figures symbolizing the four Franconian rivers should be regarded as untrue until evidenced by documents.

The Auverabrunnen was constructed in 1708 by Jakob van der Auwera by the order of Prince-bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau. A gryphon (griffin) graces the center of the fountain, holding the coat-of-arms of the Greiffenclau house. Greiffenclau means literally translated claw of the Gryphon. Hence, the fountain is also called Greifenbrunnen. The four figures surrounding the gryphon are symbolizing four streams, which is why the fountain is also called Vierströmebrunnen (Four-Streams-Fountain). It is doubtful that they represent the four rivers in Franconia.
