I was on my way home from town this morning when I drove by this gal, sitting on a post, right beside the road. When I went by I was thinking she must be yard art because why would she be right beside the road? But I still watched for a place I could turn around and then waited for all cars to go by because I knew I was going to need to stop in the road. As I went back and stopped when I was across from her, I still wondered if she was yard art. She was so still with her face up to the sun and eyes closed. Although I knew I’d feel kind of stupid if she wasn’t real (if so the people in the house would probably be getting a laugh) I took some photos anyway. As I snapped off a few, she slowly turned to face me and began opening her eyes. Yeah! She was real. I’m nobody’s fool today. Well, not this morning anyway. I took a couple more shots and left. She looked so relaxed and like she was really enjoying the morning sun so I didn’t want to disturb her any more than I had. She’s a Barred Owl. They mate for life. Sometimes the kids stay in the nest for 6 months. Adults can grow 16-23” tall and have a wingspan of 38-45”. This was super cool. The fall colors added a great background. Allen West area of Bow.

I photograph these trees fairly often. I love the line and variety. Having cows in the field is a bonus. Samish Flats, NW Washington.
