Cooper's Hawk, immature. I decided this was a Cooper's Hawk, rather than a Sharp-shinned Hawk, based on a number of factors. The size of the hawk was around that of a crow, maybe a bit larger. The streaks on the chest seemed to be crisp to me. There is white edging on the end of the tail feathers. The tip of the tail is rounded. It's head doesn't seem flat, but it had its head feathers fluffed up as it was grooming. So am I 100 per cent sure? I looked at dozens of pictures, and often there is a lot of overlap in the features of the two. Maybe Don Delaney can let me know if I'm right!

I hiked up to Fairy Falls with a single camera and lens this afternoon. I haven't been there since the 90's. Fairy Falls is located on the Wahkeena Falls Trail in the Columbia Gorge, Oreogn.
