Churchill College, University of Cambridge. Enjoyed a wonderful exhibition (and hot chocolate) at the college on Friday: Aubrey Williams and the Sky, Light and Colour in the Universe.

Williams (1926-1990) was a keen observer of the heavens and an active member of the Royal Astronomical Society. His 'Cosmos' series reflects a lifetime involvement with cosmology and astronomy. As one critic wrote, "... there is something astronomical in all of Williams' paintings." To celebrate the relationship between Williams' work and the heavens, his colourful abstracts are shown alongside a series of images taken with the Hubble Space telescope. I loved this juxtaposition of work in the Brutalist setting of Churchill.

Darwin College, University of Cambridge. I found these two gentlemen in a corner just outside the Rayne Building. Perhaps they had come out for a smoke. No, they were getting ready for the Annual Dinner. Stephen Keynes smiled at me (guiltily?). Chester White looked over his shoulder, smiled, and carried on with his task. One had to look one's best for the formal dinner.

Stephen Keynes is a great-grandson of Charles Darwin and a nephew of the economist John Maynard Keynes. Dr Chester White was a student at the college when it was founded 50 years ago.

Darwin College, University of Cambridge. Sad to hear that Sir John Bradfield, 89, a founding father of the world-famous Cambridge Science Park and of Darwin College, died on 13 October. Cambridge has lost a bright and colourful gentleman.

This is the last time I saw him, at a dinner commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the college back in May this year. He spoke with wit and humour about the establishment of the college in 1964. I'm now glad I managed to take a few shots to document the moment. Extreme low light snap as it was a candle-lit affair.

Jesus College, University of Cambridge. Geoffrey Clarke's sculpture "Call it Hadrian's Wall" (1970). One of my favourite sculptures in the college gardens.
