2009 Review. In July I volunteered to spend a day with the charity Friends of Chernobyl's Children . Around seventeen children from deprived homes in Chernobyl (remember the nuclear disaster?) visited the University with activities at the University Centre and the Museum of Zoology. It was great to see the kids so engrossed in the activities -- like making pizzas here -- and having such fun.

The charity brings children, who are at risk, from Belarussia to the United Kingdom for a month every year. It targets children from orphanages or disadvantaged homes, aged between six and thirteen. More on the charity here: www.focc.org.uk .

FOCC @ University of Cambridge. One of the activities for the children at the University Centre was flower arrangement. Local floral designer Madeleine Bradley helped the kids do some beautiful things with the flowers. I could only look on in amazement! I don't do flowers, but I do do photos:-)

FOCC @ University of Cambridge. There's a lot that takes place at the University. And a lot of it is "hidden" and doesn't get covered in any way. A group of children from Chernobyl visited Cambridge this week and took part in activities at the University Centre and also at the Museum of Zoology. The 800th Anniversary Team provided the T-shirts:-)

The charity Friends of Chernobyl's Children (FOCC) was behind this visit. "Friends of Chernobyl's Children is a registered charity which devotes its energies to raising funds to bring children, who are at risk, from Belarussia to the United Kingdom for a month every year. The charity targets children from orphanages or disadvantaged homes, aged between six and thirteen. These children are in great need and come from social situations that make it difficult for them to get the care they require at home," from the FOCC website.
