John Waller has been a part of Bridge Street in Cambridge for 14 years. He sells the Cambridge News. Now where would we be without John or the News: in the dark:-( He's been in Cambridge for 40 years and was a baker in London before he retired.

He's 80 in August but looks very fresh and boyish. To the question "What's your secret, then?" he replied: "BREAKFAST!" Fried breakfast every morning: eggs, potatoes, and bacon. EVERY DAY! Well, that's a lot of eggs etc he's downed over the 80 years!

As he's a permanent fixture of Bridge Street, like the lamposts and buildings, you'd think he just stays there all the time. In fact, he's quite a globe trotter. He's travelled to countries that some of us only dream of travelling to: Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Egypt, to name a few. But, I said, isn't he lucky to be in Cambridge. There he is sitting there and enjoying it all while he sells the odd paper. There he is right opposite St John's Chapel. "Yes," he replied thoughtfully, "very, very lucky".

I think I'm lucky, too:-))
