Smooth Sumac seed pod (Rhus glabra) - Hall County, Georgia - The remaining berries on the seed pod of a Smooth Sumac tree in mid-winter.

The Smooth Sumac (Rhus glabra) is a native tree or shrub in North America. In sprint it will have small green flowers in a cluster and in autumn produces a berried fruit that is scarlet or crimson in color that is edible. The berries will remain throughout the winter unless eaten by wildlife.
