Willow Ptarmigan, Lagopus lagopus alascensis, 38.1 cm / 15 in. UNCOMMON, mainly found on low flat tundra in and near stunted willows close to tree line. Photographed in June 2007.

Male California Quail, Callipepla californica, 10 in. / 25.4 cm. COMMON. Found in coastal chaparral habitat of dense brush and weedy thickets. Often seen along roadsides or field edges. A small covey of quail came out of the shrubbery near the parking lot. Handheld.
