African Elephant, African Bush Elephant, Loxodonta africana, at the shoulders; 3.2 - 4 m / 10.5 - 13.12 ft. Female is 2.58 - 3.4 m / 8.2 - 3.4 ft. Now restricted to northern and north-eastern areas of South Africa with a wide habitat tolerance as long as there is sufficient food, water and shade. We arrived in Kruger as the Sun was waning, the first sighting as we drove over a small hill was a large mixed-herd of Elephant, Buffalo, wildebeest and antelope - I admit my eyes misted slightly.
