Indian Paintbrush, Castilleja species. Background Quaking Aspen, Populus tremuloides . There are 200 species of paintbrushes. In moderation the flowers are edible however, the greens absorb and store selenium and can contain toxic amounts. Native american people also had medicinal uses for Castilleja.
