Brown Violet-ear, Colibri delphinae, 4.5 in. / 11.5 cm. UNCOMMON and local breeding resident of forest canopy, tall second growth and semi-open woods, at shrub level of forest clearings and edges. Handheld Canon 10D, 35-105mm USM IS lens. Had my landscape lens. Made me want to get bigger glass and get serious about shooting birds.

Costa Rica. Photographed in July 2003 on a TAS-hosted tour guided by Borderland Tours.
