Least Sandpiper, Calidris minutilla, 6 in. / 15.24 cm. COMMON; the most widely distributed sandpiper. Found on almost any bit of exposed mud or grassy mudflat both coastally and inland, rarely on sandy beaches.

Solitary Sandpiper, Tringa solitaria, 8.5 in. / 21.59 cm. UNCOMMON but widespread on small freshwater mudflats and at edges of brushy ponds or ditches. Nests in boreal forests by marshes ponds, re-uses a songbird nest from previous season.
