Diagnostic HWAMEI, Melodius Laughingthrush or Chinese Thrush, Garrulax canorus, 25 cm. / 9 in. Skulks in dense underbrush, a great vocalist. Established cage-escapee from sometime in the early 1900's.

White-rumped Shama, Copsychus malabaricus, 25 cm. / 9 - 11 in. Another great vocalist introduced to Kaua'i in 1931 from Malaysia. COMMON.

Red-crested Cardinal, Paroaria coronate, 18 cm. / 7.5 in., actually a member of Tharupidae, Tanagers. Introduced in 1930 from South America and spreading throughout the islands. Also known as Brazilian Cardinal. This RECRCA was seen in a park near the beach. Photographed in April 2009.
