Alissa and Chad's wedding - Megan and I took a 4-day weekend to fly to Arcata and go to Alissa and Chad's wedding. I had heard wonderful things about Arcata and was excited to visit. Amazingly we got to the small Arcata/Eureka airport with just one stop from Denver (in Salt Lake City). On the wedding invitation they had written that they would arrange transportation to town for anyone flying directly to Arcata.
There were a number of people on the airplane (mostly Alissa's family) also arriving for the wedding so I expected we'd all be sharing some vehicle together to town. While waiting for the baggage, I see Chad ride up to the airport on a bicycle. Alissa was shortly behind him. Then I notice that Chad was on a tandem with a trailer behind, and on the trailer is another bicycle. Ohmygosh, I realize, he's coming to pick someone up with the bicycles! Who's that for? I thought Chad was joking when he said it was for us. Onmygosh, he's serious, Megan and I are biking to town from the airport! The best airport pickup ever!
I was so excited. Chad and Alissa were excited because they had wanted to pick up people from the airport by bicycle, and this weekend had been their first opportunity. Also, they figured (correctly) that I was the type of person who they could surprise and not tell ahead of time to expect a bicycle pickup. I pulled the extra bicycle off the trailer, put it together; we loaded up the trailer with luggage, and we were off!
Along the way we stopped near the coast at a place that Alissa and Chad enjoy, and they pulled beers out of one of the panniers! Wow, it doesn't get any better than this! After stopping at the hotel Megan continued on the back of the tandem to pick up the keg for the rehearsal dinner.
The wedding was fun: great people, great food, great dancing. We had some nice walks around Arcata. I'd like to get back there and do some exploring. Seems like a perfect place for a bicycle tour. Here's some info to make a nice tour.
