Apache by bike - My 4th 13er under my own power from Boulder. The others were Audubon (twice), Storm Peak, and Mt Meeker. Apache was a 10.5 hour effort. I thought I was feeling pretty good 'til I got home. It was 100°F in Boulder, and once I stopped moving I realized I was very dehydrated. I definitely did not eat or drink enough all day, and I paid for it by feeling lousy that night and much of the following day.
The route went as planned. I only had tennis shoes and ski poles so I took quite a lot of time to kick good steps up the Isabelle Glacier snow field crossing. From the summit I saw lots of people on Navajo, but I may have been the only one to summit Apache that day. I descended the broken cliff bands to the SE of the summit. There was no snow but some (mostly) avoidable water and lots of beautiful flowers. I should have drank more. I knew it was hot as I hung out at the summit for 20 minutes in shorts and t-shirt!

I walked up the middle of the snow field directly toward the summit. The left side was too steep. The right side seemed out of the way, and I was happy to get off the snow and on to the rock, though the rock was steep and a bit exposed.

Nice view of Navajo snow field, Navajo Peak, and Dicker's Peck, the small pinnacle to the left of Navajo. Jack and I climbed Dicker's Peck once. The dropoff on the west side is pretty amazing.

This was some of the steeper snow that I've climbed without an axe or crampons. I think this route might be called Queen's Way and the snow field might called Isabelle Glacier.
