Biking near Aspen May 2008 - Because of all the snow and avalanche danger, Independence Pass wasn't open as early as normal this year. We weren't able to do the ride over Independence Pass like we did last year and the year before. Still we had great rides up the Maroon Bells Road (to just past the winter closure), the Ashcroft Road (to near the end of the pavement; it had just been plowed a day or two before), and up to Independence Pass until there was too much snow. We hung out at the Woody Creek tavern when we weren't biking and in the process of getting between there and Aspen we rode the unpaved bike path through the canyon two or three times. That's a great path.
