There is a certain song that we sing, sometimes without realizing that our voice escapes our clenched throat, that vibrates through the air, noiseless, until it beats against the place it was meant to find. The lyrics are without words yet speak to a place inside where the voiceless booming of magnetic poetry carves itself in deep. Words are not necessary in this song. It is a pounding mystery. The ocean beating rocks against one another, or the crack of thunder. It carries inside itself a booming melancholy, or a rich light, and when we hear it (for only we can) we know it to be true. Such is the way with certain places. We release a song and hear nothing until it hits hard the place that makes it sing. Such is the way with humans. Such is the way with the soul.

I visited the darker side of my imagination this week and it felt good. That old feeling came back, the creeping thought of "should I share this?" and I was immediately at peace, happily moving forward with a self-portrait that calls to mind earlier works while pairing it with a new environment.

I went out and shot this picture to continue a series, beginning with my last photo here. I ended up with 7 shots in total and I'll be sharing more over the next few days, including a behind the scenes video :) It was a super fun shoot, though I did feel a bit bad for the models who had to sit in that freezing cold water! All part of the adventure...or so I tell myself, and them ;-)

I was very eager, or I should say have been very eager, to capture beauty in darkness...I've been in quite a simple mood with photography, wanting to capture the human form and let it stand out against the background. That inspiration clearly shows through here, and I was thrilled to have these two willing and beautiful models to stand in and make my dreams come to life.
