This series and this image in particular means so much to me. We shot this 4 times before getting it right. When I first started these Ophelia images Katie (model here) sent me an image of a mystery woman in an etching that was hanging on someone's wall. We didn't know who created the image or what time it was from, but the woman in it was haunting and we both realized that she looked just like Katie. We later discovered it was an Ophelia rendering, and we have used that as part of our research for this series. This image is a "remake" of that, though it is not a literal interpretation by any means whatsoever. More details about this will be published in time :)

Lots of things going on here...

First, this is a new take on my older shot "Sleepwalker", updated for my Ophelia series. "Sleepwalker" proved to be a subconscious rendering of Ophelia, so I thought it only appropriate to recreate the image.

Second, I shot a behind the scenes video on how I shoot underwater as well as a silent 2 minutes at the end of me shooting this image.
Video can be seen here: vimeo.com/13803253
Apologies for the horrid video quality!!
Hope you enjoy it :-)

Piece #3 (if you put them in order) of my Ophelia series, featuring model Katie Johnson who has written an incredible/must-read essay on my blog as my first featured artist about fine art modeling. She also did an interview with me. Both of these can be found here.

I moved all weekend, just myself and my husband and the Uhaul. I had SO much fun driving the truck, it reminded me of driving my dads big white work van. But the moving wasn't as much fun. I really only count as half a person when it comes to doing any physical labor but I tried my best and as a result feel like I got run over by a train.

I loved shooting this image. Shooting half underwater and half above is challenging because the camera settings have to change. Difficult for the model as well because she has to stand perfectly still so that the images match up. My camera bag broke and I need a new one within the next week to finish this Ophelia project, blargh. When I get a new bag I'll be doing a video about how I shoot underwater, a bit about my process and you'll hear from Katie as well, most likely :)

Does anyone else have interesting stories from underwater photo adventures?

So much to say! Bursting with happiness today :-) For no particular reason.

First and foremost, WORKSHOPS are starting soon! If you want to sign up just shoot me an email to info@brookeshaden.com with the subject line "workshop". More info can be found on my website: www.brookeshaden.com, and also on my blog: shadenproductions.com/blog/2010/08/08/workshops-the-creat...
Only a space, or 2 if I stretch it, are left :-)

Also, I have a new blog post and video up on youtube (vimeo isn't as good, so I found) about this photo!

This photo depressed me when I first started editing because I didn't know how I would pull it off...would you believe that this image is made of 34 different photos? Took a while to put it together and then *enjoy* it haha!
