"Dreaming in Fluid Motion", self-portrait, September 2021
...From when I hiked 2 miles at dawn to my local pond in the forest, saw a herd of elk, watched the blue mist lift from the pine trees, and laid myself down in the murky water where I closed my eyes and drifted on my pillow.

Because life is too rich to miss out on those 6am plunges. Trust me.

It means different things. It's dark and it's light. It's sorrowful and it's hopeful. It's dreamy and it's drowning. She's sleeping and she's dying. She's floating and she's struggling.
Sometimes, we're both.

The water is a wild tonic -
let it drown the piece of you that claws at the lake's shore
and fill the vacancy in that road-side motel where your memories dwell.

The water is a wild tonic -
your ripples turn to frantic screams for help as you flail in the deep
and the water answers in a lapping siren song to pull you under.
