(Alisterus scapularis) "Surely one of the most beautiful of all the parrots, the male king parrot is resplendent in his plumage of scarlet red head and underparts, electric blue tail and emerald green wings and back. There is also a pale green stripe running from the shoulder down the wings. The female is less striking, yet is still an attractive bird with the red of the head and throat replaced with green." Reference from Australian Reptilepark. This visitor photographed in the backyard, Sydney Australia.

This tiny bird is an Eastern Spinebill. They are very shy and often sit in the dark hidden away from Butcher birds and from me. 25 years ago I decided I wanted Spinebills in the yard so planted Grevillea Orange Marmalade shrubs, they love this plant. Spinebills have lived there ever since. They sound like wind chimes, tiny little bell sounds as they dart about. I hear them but rarely see them. 41 degree celsius heat today brought them to the water bowl at my back door and this is only the second time I have been quick enough to photograph one.

Vistors to this seldom filled seed tray at my backdoor. Lorikeets are quite quarrelsome and lack the gentle bell voices of our Rosellas and King Parrots but are, nonetheless, beautiful birds of the world.
