Slender Tailed Meerkat (Suricata suricatta)
Meerkats are members of the mongoose family that live together in complex social groupings. They grow to be 10 to 14 inches long with a tail length that nearly doubles that. Meerkats have a slow metabolism, which allows them to live comfortably in natural environments with consistently warm temperatures. They spend most of their time foraging, basking in the sun and grooming, all except for this one which is currently on sentry duty, keeping an eye out for danger from eagles etc.

Purple-naped Lory (Lorius domicella).
Both adults in general red; black forehead and lores to occiput, with purple patch bordering from behind; upper breast has yellow band which varies from bird to bird; purple/blue thighs; green wings; yellow underwing-band; red tail, tipped with darker brown/red. Bill orange. Eye ring dark grey. Eye orange/red.
A “restricted-range” species. Apparently has a naturally low population; is uncommon to rare on Seram, with no recent reports from Ambon or Buru. Ongoing deforestation from logging, oil drilling and hydroelectric power plants and intensive trapping are suspected to be causing rapid declines.

Striated Heron (Butorides striata) in the Richmond River at Ballina, NSW. "A very widespread small heron, common across much of the globe. Small size and overall grey colour separates it from most other herons and bitterns. Look for contrasting dark cap, distinct pale edges on wing feathers, and white and rufous stripes on front of neck. Normally solitary, found standing quietly around wetland habitats such as marshes, agricultural fields, rivers, and lakes."
