Holyrood, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada

Black-throated green Warblers have always been a tough bird for me to photograph. Typical it takes me many tries and I might be lucky to come away with one decent image of them for the year. This past weekend I headed out to one of my favorite song bird locations and to be honest I wasn’t even expecting to see a BTGW. As I crested the top of a small hill right there at eye level was a pair of these beauties foraging for food. I was able to grab a few good frames of this male before they disappeared into the woods. I guess I got lucky this year

Golden-crowned Kinglets make me think of someone that is all hyped up on caffeine and very jittery. This little guys never sit still for very long and I have struggled to get a good images of them until the other morning when I came across a pair foraging in a patch of large spruce trees.

Yesterday morning I started my day off in a marshy bog as the sun slowly burned off the fog. The air was filled with song and this Black & White Warbler stole the show.

The White-throated Sparrow is by far my favourite sparrow that we get here in Newfoundland and this particular male was making his presence known along the edge of a bog I was scouting.

A Swamp Sparrow stacks it’s claim over a small section of marsh in the middle of no where. This spring I have dedicated more time to just getting off the beaten path. Heading deeper into the forest to see what treasures await me.
