On January 13th a Hoary Redpoll was found at Nod Brook Wildlife Management Area in Avon, Connecticut. I used to visit this area when I was a kid as it is one town over from where I grew up. This past Saturday and Sunday I made the trip south to see it. The image with the blue sky in the background was taken Saturday and the rest Sunday. The two were sticking together and would travel between feeding in alder trees and the ground in the back of a parking lot. When on the ground they must have felt like they were back in the tundra! This winter I have now photographed a female and male. In November, the female was a life bird.

This image shows the “frostier” Hoary in the background. The two were sticking together and would travel between feeding in alder trees and the ground in the back of a parking lot.
