MESA VERDE NATIONAL PARK COLORADO
Spruce Tree House has been closed to visitors since 2015. A continuous crack in the natural sandstone arch above the structure has become unstable with numerous rock falls. The pueblo was built around 1250AD and contains about 130 rooms and 8 kivas. The site is well protected in the alcove from the elements and has over 90% of its original material.

CANYONS OF THE ANCIENTS NATIONAL MONUMENT COLORADO
The Monument is located in southwest Colorado near the town of Cortez. It contains over 171,000 acres, most of which is backcountry and was created to protect the cultural and natural resources on a regional scale. The Bureau of Land Management oversees the Monument. Saddlehorn Pueblo is located on the Sand Canyon Trail, a six-mile one way trail, which contains numerous other pueblo sites along its length. The ruins sit on a shallow alcove beneath a saddlehorn-shaped sandstone point. The pueblo has two rooms and a nearby partially excavated ceremonial kiva. The site dates to around 1250AD.

GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK - COLORADO
My wife and I had just finished hiking up to High Dune and were sitting down to enjoy the view for awhile. I overheard a woman's voice and the excited screams and laughter of a child well below us and noticed a mother and her son climbing a dune ridge. The mother was steadily moving forward while her son would playfully lag behind and then run to meet her. Together, alone in this expanse of sand I thought of the bond between them and captured the moment.
